WhatsApp Channels Now Boasts Polls, Voice Notes, and Channel Sharing.

WhatsApp channels, used by businesses and celebrities to send updates, are getting an upgrade. Polling, voice notes, and the option to post channel updates to Status will soon be added to the list of features that will be available for channels. On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, made the announcement about the new channel capabilities on his own WhatsApp channel. He made the announcement while demonstrating the new polling function to his followers. In the previous year, WhatsApp introduced the Channels feature, which functions as a tool for broadcasting in a unidirectional manner. Channels is a project that aims to boost interaction on Meta’s messaging platform. It does this by providing regular updates from public figures, organizations, and sports teams.

Channel administrators will now have the opportunity to distribute polls to users as part of the new upgrades, which are designed to increase the level of participation on channels. There have been polls available on WhatsApp for some time now, both in ordinary chats and in group chats. For the first time, channel administrators will now have the ability to send out updates in the form of voice notes, which will allow them to engage the audience in a manner that is more direct and personal.

Not only that, but updates from WhatsApp channels may now also be posted on Status. A user can accomplish this by holding down the channel update that they wish to share, selecting the ‘Forward’ option, and then selecting the ‘My Status’ option subsequently. Additionally, the new upgrades give you the capability to add several administrators to a specific channel. This is the last modification.

Channels, which primarily function as a medium for one-way communication, have been updated since their introduction with the intention of bringing about increased engagement and participation throughout the platform. In November 2023, WhatsApp Channels apparently released a beta upgrade that enables channel administrators to share stickers with their followers. This update was supposedly rolled out. It was seen for the first time that the platform was working on the capability to distribute polls among channels during the same month.

WhatsApp initially introduced the Channels feature in June of the previous year. At the time of its inception, Meta described it as “a simple, reliable, and private way to receive important updates from people and organizations, right within WhatsApp.” After some time, the broadcasting tool was made available in 150 countries, one of which was India, and it was also made available in September with support for directory search and reactions. In addition, Meta collaborated with well-known sports teams, such as the Indian Cricket team, as well as famous people, such as Diljit Dosanjh and Katrina Kaif, to establish specialized channels that offer consistent updates on the application.

Within a short period of time, channels have developed into a feature that is widely used. According to WhatsApp, there are more than 2 billion users of the messaging app worldwide. WhatsApp Channels, on the other hand, surpassed 500 million monthly active users within the first seven weeks of its launch, according to a statement that Zuckerberg had posted on Channels in the previous year.
