Steam 2023 Blockbusters: Top Sellers & Player Favorites.

The games that dominated PC sales in 2023 were revealed by Valve in their annual “Best of 2023” list, which was released on Steam. The titles have been categorized into four levels: platinum, gold, silver, and bronze, based on data gathered between January 1 and December 15, 2023, rather than being rated numerically. Free-to-play multiplayer games and the major releases are represented in the Top 12 category; the best-selling titles are Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield, Hogwarts Legacy, and the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3. Because of a devoted fan base that wanted to play its multiplayer mode, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was able to rise in the rankings despite criticism from both critics and fans.

Notable titles such as Counter-Strike 2, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, Dota 2, and Destiny 2 have also achieved Platinum status; the latter is set to receive a new expansion dubbed “The Final Shape” in June of this year. In the meantime, some absolute bangers can be found in the Gold tier, like Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring, and the Resident Evil 4 remake, the latter of which had sold 20 million copies worldwide as of the most recent report. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, a lesser-known FromSoftware series, is currently one of the top 24 best-selling games on the market, thanks in large part to its popularity. Considering that its successor, EA Sports FC 24, was released in the middle of the year, it is not unexpected that even FIFA 23 from the previous year made the cut.

Steam includes divisions for Most Played, Early Access purchases, New Releases by gross revenue, and others, in addition to an overall Top-Sellers field. With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Payday 3 coming in first and second, respectively, and the latter being criticized for lacking content, multiplatform games that were not well received appear to be the focus of attention among the most recent releases. Multiplayer dominated Steam’s charts, but single-player titans like Hogwarts Legacy and Goose Goose Duck held their own. Baldur’s Gate 3 shattered Larian’s expectations with over 800,000 concurrent players, and remains a top 4 hit with 176,000+ still adventuring.

Additionally, 2023 was a fantastic year for studios to test-release and gather feedback on their games. Favorites included the fishing and ocean exploration game by Mintrocket, Dave the Diver, which ended up becoming one of the most played games on the Steam Deck. Though it makes sense that less graphically demanding games like Half-Life and Vampire Survivor would be present, Starfield managed to reach the top despite its poor optimization, which resulted in severe stutters in congested locations like New Atlantis and the Wild West-themed Akila. Along with Half-Life: Alyx, Beat Saber and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, these games have become popular virtual reality games that pit you against the hostile Combines.

Right now, Steam is also hosting its yearly Winter Sale, which offers significant savings on both new and previously released games.
