PS5 DualSense Controller Spotted Online with 12-Hour Battery Life Claim.

Sony may release an upgraded PS5 DualSense controller. A V2 PlayStation gamepad was discovered under a since-deleted sale on the Canadian Best Buy shop. While it looks regular at first glance, it has an “exceptional 12-hour battery life” when fully charged (via The Verge). Compared to the current DualSense controller, which, depending on the game, has a battery life of about 7-8 hours, this would be a huge improvement. The ad also mentioned a click-in charging station that would be included in the box, making it easier to play for longer hours and tuck it away neatly. The device is priced at CAD 89.99.

Aside from that, the DualSense V2 controller appears to be a perfect replica of the original, complete with a built-in microphone and 3.5mm headphone socket, as well as motors for haptic feedback and adaptable triggers for increased immersion. The weight, which is 280 grams, is also the same. As this is merely an upgraded version, don’t anticipate any of the more expensive DualSense Edge range of hybrid controllers’ customizable back buttons or interchangeable thumbsticks. It is also important to keep in mind that not all of the characteristics may have been included in the Best Buy listing, and as of right now, it is unknown if or when Sony intends to release it.

During its CES 2024 presentation, the firm did not discuss the new DualSense V2 controller either. Instead, it unveiled three colorways for the PS5, which have a metallic sheen and are blue, silver, and red. Although not stated specifically, the side plates ought to be sold separately in the future. Sony showcased another amazing feature of the PS5 DualSense controller during the event: it can be used to remotely operate the Afeela, a new electric car that the firm and Honda created together that has a massive panoramic screen that takes up the entire front console.

According to reports, Sony submitted a patent application in November for an improved DualSense controller design. This controller would use artificial intelligence (AI) to learn player behavior and light up its buttons, triggers, and analog sticks to help when a player gets stuck on a puzzle. Using the PS5 controller’s touchpad as an extra display to visually spell out game clues was another concept to advance accessibility. Though it shows the extent to which Sony PlayStation is willing to differentiate itself from the competition, keep in mind that filing a proposal does not guarantee that it will ever be realized.

PlayStation unveiled the new list of free titles that would be included in its more expensive PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium subscriptions earlier this week. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Just Cause 3, and the critically praised Resident Evil 2 remake are among the titles in the collection. The corporation upped the prices of its annual PS Plus memberships last year as well.
