In recent times, there have been a lot of controversies about the privacy of Google users. Many users all across the globe had raised concerns about the storage of personal information on the popular search engine.
Given these circumstances, Google has recently released a tool that allows users to easily remove search results that contain the users’ contact numbers, addresses, or other personally identifiable information.
The “Results about you” feature
The “Results about you” feature was first introduced in May 2022. According to Google, this feature was designed to help users easily control personally identifiable information found in Search results.
Upon searching a particular topic if you find any personally identifiable information you can click on the three dots icon at the top right. On clicking the icon, the usual “About the result” options panel appears on the screen. Now, it has a new option to “Remove result” at the bottom of the screen. If the search result contains your contact number, email address, or residential address, Google shall review the request for removal more quickly.
The request can be monitored in a new menu item in Google. This item is called “Results about you”. The progress of your requests can be monitored with filters like “All requests”, “in progress”, and “Approved”.
Google remarked that upon receiving requests for removal, all content on the concerned web page shall be carefully evaluated. This will help in protecting the privacy of users and not limit the availability of relevant information on the web at the same time. If Google search does not remove your request, you can contact the host site directly.
