Apple SIM no longer available for new data plans on iPads.

Apple SIM cards were introduced for the first time in 2014. They were designed so that people who owned iPads could make use of cellular data no matter where they were in the world. Apple SIM cards were originally nothing more than physical nano SIMs. Later, these SIM cards were embedded when it came to modern eSIM technology. However, the carrier support they enjoyed was more limited.

Apple SIM Cards Then And Now

Originally, Apple SIM cards were available with the following iPad models:

  • The iPad Air 2
  • The iPad Mini 3
  • The iPad Mini 4
  • The 12.9-inch iPad Pro belonging to the first generation
  • The iPad 5
  • The iPad 6

You could also find embedded Apple SIMs with the iPad models mentioned below:

  • The iPad Pro of 9.7-inches
  • The iPad Pro of 10.5-inches
  • The iPad Pro of 12.9-inches belongs to the second generation

The iPad models that have been mentioned in this article continue to have physical trays for SIM cards. According to the support document from Apple, customers are advised to get in touch with carriers regarding how they can activate their cellular data plans on the aforementioned iPad models, should they own them.

The models of the iPad Pro, the iPad Mini, the iPad Air, and the iPad in general, have standard eSIM technology. However, this only applies to the models that were released after October 2018. If you own any of these models, you won’t need a separate Apple SIM. To learn more about how to make the best of your iPad, get in touch with your iPad provider today.
