Apple Deploys iOS 17.1.2, macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 Updates to Tackle WebKit Exploits, Enhance Security.

Apple rolled out the iOS 17 update for the iPhone 15 series and a handful of compatible older iPhone models a few months ago. Since then, the massive tech company headquartered in Cupertino, California, has been releasing smaller updates to fix known issues and repair security flaws that are being actively exploited. The company has released the most recent operating systems, macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 and iOS 17.1.2, to fix minor bugs on compatible Mac and iPhone devices. Additionally, Apple is developing iOS 17.2, which should be available at some point in the upcoming month. The new Journal app (Review) and other noteworthy enhancements to the Music app are included in the update.

Updates to macOS Sonoma 14.1.2 and iOS 17.1.2 for compatible Mac and iPhone models are currently available. The most recent update addresses some of the known issues with iOS and macOS and adds some security enhancements. Beginning with the iPhone 11 and iMac Pro (2017 or later), the upgrades will be downloaded and installed on all eligible iPhone and Mac models.

On compatible iPhone models, the Settings app is where you can download the iOS 17.1.2 update. To install the most recent update, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts on the screen. It is advised that users leave their phones plugged in until the operating system upgrade is fully installed.

Apple has provided remedies for two actively exploited WebKit browser engine issues that have been used against earlier devices with the most recent iOS 17.1.2 upgrade. Sensitive content can be stolen by using these vulnerabilities. The business stated, “Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited against versions of iOS prior to iOS 16.7.1.” Updates for CVE-2023-42916 and CVE-2023-42917 have been patched. Apple claims that although the memory corruption vulnerability was resolved with better locking, CVE-2023-42916 was fixed with improved input validation.

Apple is also developing the iOS 17.2 upgrade, which is anticipated to be made available later this month. The new Journal app for iPhone will be available with the update. Along with these additions, Apple TV will get new features like collaborative playlists in Apple Music, a new clock and weather widget, and more.
