Tesla Goes 100 Percent Electric

tesla-roadsterIn an era where gas prices at the pump spiking as high as we have seen lately, a low-carbon car that shatters preconceived notions of electric vehicles – may be the solution. Tesla Motors seemed to be working on this dream for many years – a quixotic dream.

Tesla is totally electric, goes from 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds and can travel nearly 250 miles (400 km)  on a single charge, says Tesla Motors Company’s home page. Of course, a skeptic might wonder where all of that electricity – during peak acceleration, enough to power 2,000 incandescent light bulbs – is coming from and how clean it is to produce. But at the speeds a Tesla can travel, you might tend to overlook such issues.

Eco Friendly Movito Scooter

movito-scooterThose who are familiar with Tai Chiem of Melbourne Australia might be aware about the in-wheel electric motor – which helps reduce emissions and frees up space, allowing for a lighter, more efficient frame- that won the coveted prize. The Create the Future contest winners were chosen by an independent panel of design engineers and managers.

The design for an eco-friendly Movito scooter looks good and it is best for short trips. Movito is an electric scooter that will have people attracted to it, and not just because it is electric, but because it is so functional. It is expected that the two tone colors and beautiful lines will make this scooter in high demand; particularly in female population and urban consumers. Different body configurations are part of the plan to make this more marketable.   » . . . . . Continue reading → Eco Friendly Movito Scooter

Ultra Thin Chip For Wearable Electronics

flexible-electronic-systemsLast month, IMEC – a world leading independent research center in nanoelectronics and nanotechnology – unveiled a new 3D integration process enabling flexible electronic systems with a thickness of less than 60 micrometer at Smart Systems Integration Conference in Brussels (Belgium). This ultra thin chip package technology allows integrating complete systems in a conventional low cost flex substrate. This will enable low cost, unobtrusive wearable electronics like wearable health and comfort monitoring and more.   » . . . . . Continue reading → Ultra Thin Chip For Wearable Electronics

PUMA Mobility

pumaGeneral Motors and Segway have jointly undertaken project Personal Urban Mobility and Accessibility (PUMA; not Puma helicopter) and the result is a two-wheeled city vehicle capable of moving up to 35 miles per hour, and going 35 miles on a single charge. It is an agile and inexpensive transportation, may be for elderly and or impaired citizens. PUMA has been unveiled at the New York Auto Show 2009.

PUMA is a kaleidoscopic mix of technologies; electric drive and batteries; two wheel balancing, all-electronic acceleration, steering and braking; vehicle-to-vehicle communications; and autonomous driving and parking. What is more, this enabling energy vehicle has zero emissions, enhanced safety, seamless connectivity and reduced congestion in cities, reads their press release.   » . . . . . Journey to the Moon and Beyond

orionIn March, the launch abort system – also known as the LAS pathfinder – for NASA’s Orion crew exploration vehicle began a week-long journey across US to be delivered to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, where it will help NASA prepare for the first abort system test, known as Pad Abort 1. The LAS pathfinder represents the size, outer shape and specific mass characteristics of Orion’s abort system. This has created waves about Orion.   » . . . . . Intel Inside

intel-xeon-cpu-medIntel has launched its first Nehalem-based Xeon chips for servers and workstations, bringing increased performance and greater power efficiency in the biggest overhaul of the Xeon platform for years. New chips offer greater memory, bandwidth and power efficient processing.

Nehalem architecture is a fundamental break from earlier Xeon processors, with an on-chip memory controller supporting a bandwidth of up to 32Gbit/s and Intel’s QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) in place of the traditional system bus. Each Nehalem EP chip has two QPI links, one connecting to the system chipset and the other between the two processor sockets in a system. Each is capable of transferring 25Gbit/s.   » . . . . . Ground to Air Transition

terrafuqia-transition-carReaders here at Techno Station are familiar with the flying car w introduced on this space earlier. Now a US firm has announced the first successful test flights for a flying vehicle – two seater Terrafuqia Transition car that runs on unleaded petrol and has foldable wings. The wings can be deployed automatically in about 30 seconds, and the car can take off and cruise for about 400 miles without refueling.   » . . . . . Continue reading → Ground to Air Transition

Light Sport Aircraft on the Road

terrafugiaWhat you call a lane that can drive down the road? Is it a, aircraft, a car or both? Call what you want to but the news is that the first ever flying automobile is being developed and it is expected to be out in the air (and on road) any time next year.

The Terrafugia Transition can transform itself from a two seater road car to a plane in 15 seconds. Does it sounds like a scene straight out of the fiction film? This magic automobile is powered by the same 100bhp engine on the ground and in the air. Claim of the manufacturer is that it will be able to fly up to 500 miles on a single tank of petrol at a cruising speed of 115mph. The wings fold up automatically and all the parts are in one vehicle. It is easy to keep and run since it uses normal unleaded fuel and will fit into a space of a normal car. Anyone can take off, fly, land and drive down straight to own garage. No runways!   » . . . . . Continue reading → Light Sport Aircraft on the Road

I will feel that I am contributing in collective eco friendly efforts for a collective cause.   » . . . . . Continue reading → Motoring to Green Future

Drivers’ Concentration on the Road

driversDrivers’ attention and concentration is vital for safe driving. Given the statistics of road accidents, most of the crashes are result of lack of attention; reason may use of cell phone, drossiness or so many others.

“Driver behavior is the leading factor in most crashes and near-crashes, according to a landmark research report released today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI). Nearly 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involved some form of driver inattention within three seconds before the event. Primary causes of driver inattention are distracting activities, such as cell phone use, and drowsiness.”   » . . . . . Continue reading → Drivers’ Concentration on the Road
